What a Wonderful World – Exploring Connections Between Music and Human Rights

The song “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong is a good segue into a discussion about human and child rights as well as inequality in the world. Every year, my students and I study the lyrics of the song in our Grade 4 classes. We explore and discuss the meaning of each stanza. In groups of three, the students are asked to visualize the world presented in the song, to draw a picture and to write connections with our current unit of inquiry, Child Rights.

The final product can look like this:

What a Wonderful World vs. Child Rights Connections from MsBenesova

Here you can find the lyrics of the song. Feel free to download the document and use it in your class.

This Youtube video is very suitable because it shows Luis Armstrong singing the song in its original version.
