What a Wonderful World – Exploring Connections Between Music and Human Rights

The song “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong is a good segue into a discussion about human and child rights as well as inequality in the world. Every year, my students and I study the lyrics of the song in our Grade 4 classes. We explore and discuss the meaning of each stanza. In groups of three, the students are asked to visualize the world presented in the song, to draw a picture and to write connections with our current unit of inquiry, Child Rights.
